Melanie VanderWal

I am a certified elementary teacher with a minor in math. I have over 10 years of teaching experience in private Christian schools, and then retired from teaching to stay at home and homeschool my two children. They are both in high school now, and we have homeschooled for their entire lives.

I chose to be an elementary teacher in ninth grade when I was going through algebra because I thought "Second graders don't have to do algebra."   However, when I was in college, I discovered how much fun algebra could be, and teaching Pre-Algebra and Algebra to my kids gave me an opportunity to be re-introduced to the topic.  Now I enjoy doing algebra, and I love teaching it to other people.

Besides algebra, I love to read, walk, and crochet.  I live in rural Volga, SD and love living in the country.  I work as a preschool teacher assistant in the morning and spend time with my kids in the afternoon.  My family loves animals, so we have four cats, three rabbits, one kitten, and one dog inside the house, and we have four bulls in our backyard pasture and several barn cats outside.

My passion is to help others learn and I am looking forward to helping new students to learn and grow.
